President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that teachers play a pivotal role in protecting younger generations and safeguarding them from the adverse and detrimental influences within the society. He made the statement in a written address to the nation in celebration of World Teacher's Day.
In his address, President Solih said teachers and educators in the Maldives have undertaken a task broader than can be described with words, not only to educate children but also to protect and guide them on the path towards becoming productive members of society. The president conveyed his best wishes to all teachers and educators in the Maldives on the occasion and extended his heartfelt gratitude and acknowledgment for their invaluable national service.
He described the determination and diligence displayed by teachers in the Maldives during the COVID-19 pandemic and said the entire nation is beholden to them for their perseverance. He noted how teachers sacrifice their time, energy, and interests to cultivate the young minds that are the future of the nation.
Furthermore, President Solih highlighted that safeguarding younger generations from drug abuse and protecting them from exposure to religious extremist rhetoric remain two major duties of the nation as a whole. The president said the objective can be achieved by ensuring that children understand and embody the holy tenets of Islam and follow healthy social etiquette.
He also expressed appreciation for the efforts of teachers and educators to nurture the future generations of the Maldives.
