Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged caution against the fast spread of influenza in the Maldives.
HPA revealed over 11,000 cases of flu have been reported so far this month, including 192 people who tested positive for influenza. HPA stated this is the largest figure to be recorded within a single month this year, noting a total of 365 confirmed cases of influenza have been reported so far this year.
Due to the rapid spread of influenza, HPA urged the public to exercise precaution against the disease. In particular, HPA urged individuals over the age of 65, pregnant women and individuals undergoing treatment for long-term illnesses to be careful over any influenza-like symptoms.
HPA also advised all individuals with flu symptoms to consult a doctor and test for COVID-19. HPA requested individuals with flu symptoms to refrain from attending work or school until they recover. The agency also urged all individuals to wear face masks in public places and to practice social distancing.
