Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed over 330 cases of influenza have been recorded in the Maldives so far this month.
Speaking at a press conference, Epidemiologist at HPA Dr. Ibrahim Afzal revealed more than 800 people had tested for influenza this month, of which 331 people tested positive which represents a positivity rate of 41%. He noted this was a major jump from the 172 cases recorded last month.
Dr. Afzal advised the public to exercise precaution against the fast spread of influenza. As such, he advised all individuals with flu symptoms to consult a flu clinic immediately, and to refrain from meeting others. He also advised all to wear face masks in public and to practice social distancing.
