Parliamentarians representing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have called for more political activities to be held to prepare for the presidential elections.
Speaking at an event held by the main ruling party, parliamentarians called for more political activities to be held across the country. The parliamentarians noted that political activities have drastically decreased following the COVID-19 pandemic and the terrorist attack against the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
They said MDP needs to begin holding political activities to ensure the party succeeds in the presidential election in 2023. They added that the activities are also crucial in determining the opinions and expectations of citizens in the Greater Male' Region and the atolls.
Speaking at the event, Chairperson Hassan Latheef said the party will work to hold political activities after Nasheed and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih return from the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).
