Completion of North Henveiru roads delayed due to design changes: RDC

Road Development Corporation (RDC) has revealed the completion of the renovation of some roads in the North Henveiru area of Male’ City has been delayed due to design changes brought by the Male’ City Council.

RDC began the renovation of 13 roads in North Henveiru area in August, under the second phase of the Male’ City Streetscaping Project. Under the project, 80% of the renovation works in Roashanee Magu of North Henveiru, including installation of paving blocks and curbstones, were completed before the project was halted.

RDC stated the corporation has been receiving several complaints from residents of the area regarding the difficulties faced due to the road being closed off for repair works for an extended period of time. RDC said the delays in completing the repair and refurbishments work were caused by design changes brought by the city council just as the work was reaching completion. The corporation said design changes were brought to increase the lane width to be used by vehicles, noting the changes forced a redo of most of the work already carried out on site.

Under this segment of the streestcaping project, RDC is renovating 1.97 kilometres of roads in North Henveiru, costing a total of USD 4.5 million. RDC said it is working on completing the renovation, and reopening the roads as soon as possible.
