Five Maldivian students ranked top in the world 2019 O'Level examinations

Five Maldivian students have received Top in the World Awards from various subjects in O' Level examinations 2019.

In the awarding ceremony, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Vice President Faisal Naseem, and First Lady Fazna Ahmed conferred awards to five students who achieved Top in the World and 419 students who ranked in the Top 10.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali highlighted that the quality of students will not be improved if the national perspective, estimates of the teachers, and the perceptions of the parents of how much they can achieve. Noting that they will not be able to achieve their capabilities in the best possible way if not given the chance, the minister called on raising their hopes on Maldivian students. She said that laying a broad educational foundation at the O' Level will strengthen their future adding if hopes for the students are raised, they will work to achieve these standards.

Highlighting since the beginning of the foreign secondary examinations, Maldivian students have been studying in English standard, the minister revealed the education system of the Maldives can be enhanced by promoting a positive view of parents and teachers towards the students.

A total of 419 students achieved O' Level Top 10 from the Maldives. Out of these, 28 students were ranked 1st in the national top 10, while five students achieved first place in the world. A total of 42 students were included in the top ranks in the world and eleven students achieved high achievement awards.

A total of 4,987 students took part in the exams in 2019 which includes 2,538 male students and 2,449 female students. The number of students who passed three subjects has risen to 67%. The number of students who passed more than five subjects stood at 68.3%.
