Gov’t working towards full decentralisation: VP

Vice President Faisal Naseem stated the government gives a high priority and is working towards paving way for full decentralisation. He made the remarks during a meeting with members of the Hoarafushi Island Council, Women's Development Committee (WDC), and senior local institutional representatives.

During the meeting, Vice President Naseem said the government will take the necessary actions to facilitate the decentralisation of institutions. The vice president also said the main purpose of meeting with the council and heads of the island's institutions was to identify the needs of the people and facilitate the improvement of services. In this regard, he assured that the council's requests will be carried out in consultation with the government authorities.

Also at the meeting, the councillors and institutional representatives shared concerns and the developmental needs of the island residents. The councillors highlighted the need to commence the projects included in the budget at the earliest possible convenience. The councillors also shed light on the importance of expediting the construction of the hospital on the island.

Additionally, the senior representatives from Hoarafushi Health Centre highlighted the most difficult issues they face in providing their services and the issues that need to be resolved immediately.

Furthermore, senior representatives from the Haa Alifu Atoll School briefed Vice President Naseem on the school's infrastructure and human resource requirements.
