Battery-powered taxis to be introduced in Villimale’

Male’ City Council has announced the decision to introduce the services of battery-powered taxis in Villimale’.

Speaking at a press conference, Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu revealed the city council will issue an announcement this week to procure 10 battery-powered or electric cars to be used as taxis in Villimale’. The mayor said battery-powered taxis are being introduced to Villimale’ to ease the difficulties faced by residents in carrying items that cannot be transported through a buggy. Noting the buggy service in Villimale’ is also currently suspended, the mayor said an announcement has been issued seeking another party to operate the buggy service.

Villimale’ is an eco-friendly island where vehicles with combustion engines are banned. Residents of Villimale’ generally use battery-powered scooters or vehicles for transport across the island.
