Male' Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MWSC) has commenced fieldwork for the water and sewerage project in Mathiveri, Alifu Alifu Atoll.
Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony of the project at a special ceremony. Parliamentarian for Mathiveri constituency Hassan Zareer and Chairman of Maldives Post Limited Mohamed Abdulla participated in the ceremony as well.
The scope of the project involves establishing a 7-kilometre main water network, a building for reverse osmosis (RO) facility, installing two RO plants, and three water storage containers. The project also involves installing water metres and connecting households to the water network.
MWSC stated work has begun to establish the water network on the island. The state-owned company is tasked with completing the project at a cost of USD 2.5 million. The project is expected to solve the challenges faced by the island residents in receiving clean water.
