CMDA hopes state-owned companies will be privatised

CEO of Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA) Mohamed Hussain Manik has expressed hope state-owned enterprises (SOEs) will be privatised and opened to the capital market. He made the remarks at a joint press conference held with Maldives Stock Exchange.

Speaking at the press conference, CEO Manik noted the government's decision to privatise SOEs and said he hopes the companies will be privatised through the capital market. The CEO said it will provide more citizens to participate in the process. He also said the greatest concern is that the Maldives stock market is still not being regulated properly, resulting in fewer daily activities in the stock market. He said he expects great results from the government's privatisation programme and hopes that it will begin next year.

Also at the press conference, the CEO of Maldives Stock Exchange Mohamed Aushan said assistance will be provided to the government in its privatisation programme. He also said the capital will be raised once the companies are listed.
