MWSC begins fieldwork of water and sewerage project in Olhuvelifushi

Male' Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MWSC) has officially commenced fieldwork for the water and sewerage project in Olhuvelifushi, Lhaviyani Atoll.

Fieldwork for the project was officially inaugurated on December 18 by Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah, Parliamentarian for Kurendhoo constituency Abdul Ghani Abdul Hakeem, President of Lhaviyani Atoll Council Yaseen Abdulla and President of Olhuvelifushi Island Council Mohamed Azim.

Under the project, MWSC will develop a 9.71km long water supply network, along with two reverse osmosis (RO) plants, three storage tanks and household connections to the main network. MWSC has already completed 45% of the RO facility building to be developed under the project.

In addition, MWSC is also set to develop a 6.56km sewerage network in the island, along with a 1.6km pumping line, four pumping stations and one sea outfall. The project also includes installing household connections to the main sewerage network and constructing an administrative building for sewerage services.

The water and sewerage project in Olhuvelifushi is carried out at a cost of USD 5.2 million.
