Maldivian Aviation Academy officially inaugurated

The newly established Maldivian Aviation Academy has been officially inaugurated.

The Maldivian Aviation Academy is a collaboration between Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), Maldives National University (MNU), and the Czech Republic-based Flying Academy. The academy was officially inaugurated by Vice President Faisal Naseem during a ceremony held at MNU on December 28, 2021.

The Maldivian National Academy was established to train aviation industry professionals locally. The academy, which will be operated under a joint venture between IASL and MNU, will be based in Gan International Airport in Addu City.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chancellor of MNU Dr. Mohamed Shareef expressed hope the academy will help to revolutionise the Maldivian aviation industry. He noted the increased development of airports across the country will increase aviation sector jobs such as pilots, engineers, security managers, hostesses and many others. He said the new academy will be a major pillar in building the human resource capacity of the Maldivian aviation industry.

The flying school will be operated by the Czech-based Flying Academy. The company was chosen to operate the school after evaluating the proposals received during open tendering.

The Maldivian Aviation Academy has now opened applications for prospective students. The academy will enroll 80 students every year, with 30 students to be enrolled in the first batch. IASL revealed priority will be given to student pilots of the Asian Academy of Aeronautics (AAA) operated in Gan, who have had to discontinue their training for a variety of reasons.
