Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Road Development Corporation (RDC) to develop the major roads of Kolamaafushi, Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
The contract for the road development project in Kolamaafushi was signed on January 6, 2022. Under the project, RDC is tasked with paving 408km of roads in Kolamaafushi with asphalt and installing a stormwater drainage system in the roads which are being developed. The project also involves installation of street lights.
The project was contracted to RDC on a design-and-build basis, at a price of USD 5.5 million. The duration allocated for the project is 450 days.
Kolamaafushi has a population of 1,668. The government is currently undertaking 10 development projects on the island.
