New power station established in Komandoo

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated a new power station in Komandoo, Shaviyani Atoll. The inauguration took place during his visit to launch the parliamentarian by-election campaign in the Komandoo constituency, where he expressed his support for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate, Mohamed Rashid.

The construction of the new power station was strategically located away from the residential areas to address the noise complaints that had been plaguing the previous power station in Komandoo for over three decades. President Solih expressed his satisfaction with the resolution of this longstanding issue, emphasizing that the new power station is expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for residents.

The newly established power station is equipped with a 600-megawatt generator set, effectively increasing the power capacity in Komandoo to 1.3 megawatts. This initiative is part of the government's broader strategy to relocate power stations away from residential areas while simultaneously expanding the power capacity and improving electricity services throughout the atolls. By doing so, the government aims to address the persistent power outage problems faced by the islands.
