Schools to be opened with strict health measures

Ministry of Education has ordered schools to open with strict health measures in place, due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives.

As part of the heightened health measures, the education ministry also urged students returning from abroad to take a PCR test within three to five days upon arrival, and to receive a negative test result before attending school. Students or employees who are returning from islands under monitoring will be required to take a PCR test within three to four days after leaving, and receive a negative test result before attending school.

Furthermore, students and employees will be required to wear masks at all times inside the school premises and will not be allowed to gather in groups. The management of schools is required to adhere to the infection control measures and to put in place means by which individuals will be able to wash their hands with soap and sanitise.

The education ministry has ordered all schools and establishments to enforce the new measures and to adhere to policies set by Health Protection Agency (HPA). The latest statistics from HPA show an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country, with over 200 daily cases recorded in the past week.
