Restrictions temporarily eased for travel to islands

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has eased restrictions for individuals travelling to islands in the next two days.

HPA stated restrictions have been eased for individuals who have to travel to islands from the Greater Male' Region in the next two days. As such, travellers will be able to take a sample before travel and stay in quarantine until they receive their results. They will also have the option of travelling to the island and staying in quarantine until the test is done and results are available.

HPA placed strict measures following an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country, especially in the Greater Male' Region. After the two days, travellers will be required to adhere to the measures, which includes completion of vaccine doses and having a 72-hour negative PCR test result.

Travellers that have not completed the doses will be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine and take a PCR test afterwards. Individuals travelling from the Greater Male' Region to islands are required to submit a negative PCR test result at the COVID-19 Safe Portal. Previously, individuals were allowed to travel to islands with a high percentage of the vaccinated population without requiring a negative PCR test result or permissions.

The latest statistics from HPA shows an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country, with over 200 daily cases recorded in the past week.
