Over 53,000 tourist beds in operation by end of 2021

Ministry of Tourism has revealed the number of tourism beds in operation in the Maldives had risen to 53,160 by the end of 2021.

The statistics released by the tourism ministry show the total tourist bed capacity registered in the Maldives is 56,410 and out of these, 53,160 beds were in operation by the end of 2021. These include 38,226 beds from resorts, 10,716 beds from guesthouses, 2,858 beds brought into operation by liveaboards, and 1,360 beds from hotels.

Moreover, a total of 929 tourist facilities have been brought into operation, including 160 resorts, 613 guesthouses, 145 safaris, and 10 hotels. The statistics show 52,194 beds were operating in the Maldives by the end of November last year, and a further 966 beds were brought into operation within one month.

The number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives has also been on the rise along with the increased number of beds brought into operation. A total of 1.3 million tourists visited the Maldives in 2021, which is an increase of 138% compared to the 555,000 tourist arrivals in 2020.
