MTCC to undertake construction of Komandoo-Mathikomandoo link bridge

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to undertake the construction of the proposed link bridge between Komandoo and Mathikomandoo in Shaviyani Atoll.

The contract for the project was signed during a special ceremony held at the planning ministry on January 12. The contract was signed by Director General at the planning ministry, Anwar Ali, and CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim.

Under the project, MTCC will link Komandoo and Mathikomandoo with a 200m long bridge. The project also involves reclamation of 16.7 hectares of land in Mathikomandoo, constructing a 1,520m rock boulder revetment, 353m groynes and a 112m geobag revetment in the reclaimed area. Rectification of 1,690m of shore protection installed in Komandoo will also be undertaken as part of the project.

The project was contracted to MTCC at a price of USD 16.12 million. The project is expected to be completed within 730 days.

Linking Komandoo and Mathikomandoo is a presidential pledge made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. During an event held in Komandoo on January 7, the president assured residents of Komandoo that the administration will fulfill the pledges made for the island.
