Maakurathu Harbour Expansion contracted to MTCC

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has taken over the projects to expand the harbour in Maakurathu and relocate the incoming channel of Ungoofaaru, Raa atoll.

The agreement of the projects was signed by the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim.

MTCC was contracted to complete the harbour expansion project in Maakurathu within 350 days. As such, 45,000cbm of harbour dredging, 140m of outer space, 85m of revetment, and 28m of groynes construction will be carried out as part of the project. Also, a 129m landmass, 26 mooring rings, and five mooring buoys will also be installed on the island. In addition, 641sqm of pavement will be constructed, nine road lights will be installed, and renovation work will be carried out on the existing harbour. USD 1.72 million will be spent on the project, according to the planning ministry.

Furthermore, MTCC was contracted to complete the relocation of the sea channel of Ungoofaaru within 210 days. As such, 41,980cbm of channel deepening, 162m of outer wall construction, and two-channel lights will be installed as part of the project. The ministry revealed USD 1.2 million has been allocated for the project.
