Grade 1-8 students to attend two days of classes on first week

Ministry of Education has stated students from grades 1 to 8 are only required to attend two days of classes on the first week of the new term. The education ministry made changes to the school timetables as part of efforts to curb the rise in COVID-19 cases.

As part of the heightened health measures, schools are required to adhere to social distances rules when conducting activities and students are required to sit three feet apart during classes. The management of schools is also required to check the temperature of students upon their arrival and to provide means to sanitise upon arrival. They are also required to adhere to the infection control measures, and the guidelines set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

The education ministry also urged students returning from abroad to take a PCR test within three to five days upon arrival, and to receive a negative test result before attending school. Students or employees who are returning from islands under monitoring will be required to take a PCR test within three to four days after leaving, and receive a negative test result before attending school.

Furthermore, students and employees will be required to wear masks at all times inside the school premises and will not be allowed to gather in groups. The management of schools is required to adhere to the infection control measures and to put in place means by which individuals will be able to wash their hands with soap and sanitise.
