MTCC begins fieldwork for Komandoo football ground project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun the fieldwork for the football ground project in Komandoo, Shaviyani Atoll.

The scope of the project involves sub-base preparation and turf installation of the Komandoo football ground. MTCC is undertaking the project as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof inaugurated the fieldwork at a special ceremony in Komandoo.

At the ceremony, Minister Mahloof said residents in Komandoo are greatly in favour of the football ground and that the government has so far built 25 football grounds across the Maldives. He noted the project is important for young football fans in Komandoo and is a step towards generating more enthusiasm for sports.

President of Komandoo Island Council Mohamed Sinan said residents have been deprived of sports and recreation due to the issues of land shortage on the island but that the project has reinvigorated their spirits.

Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim said the football ground project will be completed within four months and that the state-owned company is undertaking numerous projects in the atolls as part of its CSR initiative.

The government has also decided to develop a gym and a billiards club in Komandoo.
