Groups attempting to stop Komandoo Link Project: Economic Minister

Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has stated some individuals are trying to stop the project to link Komandoo and Mathikomandoo in Shaviyani Atoll. He made the remarks while speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the fieldwork for the project.

At the ceremony, Minister Fayyaz said the government aims to solve the issues faced by residents of all islands as soon as possible. The minister said the Maldives was severely underdeveloped when the administration came into office and that the government was able to bring significant national development in the past three years, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the government is undertaking projects across the Maldives and will provide much-needed services and infrastructure to the citizens by the end of the term.

Additionally, Minister Fayyaz said the project to link Komandoo and Mathikomandoo will solve the land shortage problem in Komandoo as well as provide more economic opportunities. He said the project aims to increase the land area to 25 hectares or by 100%, providing future generations the opportunity to settle down and live comfortably on the island.

Furthermore, Minister Fayyaz noted the previous government had made up and nullified laws whenever it pleased and that state institutions were forced to follow the government's whim. However, he said the current government conducts its work democratically with the involvement of all relevant stakeholders. He added the opposition groups trying to stop the Komandoo link project only want to see the government fail, but he assured the efforts will continue towards fulfilling all its pledges.
