Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has stated satellite education is a world-renowned system that aims to provide more educational opportunities for students in the atolls. She made the remarks at the ceremony held to inaugurate the satellite hub centre in Huravee School, Male' City.
Vice President Faisal Naseem launched satellite education in three schools at the ceremony, with Minister Aishath in attendance via satellite from Fehendhoo.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Aishath said islands with low populations have the least amount of crime, as they have peaceful communities. However, she said many of the residents leave to further their education, resulting in huge losses for the islands. She said satellite education is a world-renowned system that aims to provide educational opportunities for students in low-population islands.
She expressed hope that satellite education will allow students to complete their education in their residential island, resulting in their community growing larger and making way for more socio-economic opportunities in the islands.
Also at the ceremony, the Principal of Huravee School Abdulla Rasheed said professional teachers specialised in satellite education will hold the online classes in accordance with the government-mandated curriculum.
Satellite education uses high-speed internet access to educate students online at their residential schools. Teachers specialised in teaching through satellite education will be staffed at the satellite hub centre in Huravee School. Satellite education has been launched in inhabited islands that currently do not consist of government schools. As such, satellite education has been launched in schools in Thinadhoo and Rakeedhoo in Vaavu Atoll, and Fehendhoo in Baa Atoll.
