Vice President Faisal Naseem has launched satellite education in the Maldives. Satellite education has been launched in schools in Thinadhoo and Rakeedhoo in Vaavu Atoll and Fehendhoo in Baa Atoll.
Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the satellite hub centre in Huravee School, Male' City, Vice President Naseem said satellite education will allow students of these schools to complete their education in their residential islands, after 12 years of being deprived of the opportunity. The vice president said the government's highest priority is to expand the education sector to provide students in the atolls with the necessary educational resources. He said the launching of satellite education has shown President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's commitment to further develop the education sector.
Furthermore, Vice President Naseem said the government has completed 40 education-related projects and is currently conducting 50 projects, with more projects in the planning process. He also expressed concern over political activities affecting the education of students and obstructing the efforts of the education sector.
Satellite education uses high-speed internet access to educate students online at their residential schools. Teachers specialised in teaching through satellite education will be staffed at the satellite hub centre in Huravee School. Satellite education has been launched in inhabited islands that currently do not consist of government schools.
The schools with satellite education systems will also consist of a minimum of two teachers, one administrative officer, and one janitor, with facilitators assisting online classes.
