Fulhadhoo Island Council has stated satellite education will be established on the island for the next academic year. The island council cited Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali stating a satellite classroom will be established at Fulhadhoo, Baa Atoll.
Minister Aishath visited Fulhadhoo to meet with the island council and tour Fulhadhoo School during her trip to Baa Atoll to attend the ceremony to launch satellite education in the Maldives. During the visit, members of the island council and the senior school management informed the minister they wish students at Fulhadhoo School to have the opportunity to complete their education on the island.
Currently, 42 students are enrolled in Fulhadhoo School and are taught up to grade 8. The island council requested Minister Aishath to provide the opportunity for the students to complete a grade 9 education. The council stated the minister informed them that a satellite classroom would be introduced at Fulhadhoo School for students to complete a grade-9 education.
Establishing a satellite classroom to teach grade 9 students at Fulhadhoo School is expected to ease the financial burden on parents. Satellite education uses high-speed internet access to educate students online at the schools on their residential islands.
Furthermore, teachers specialised in teaching through satellite education will be working at the satellite hub centre established in Huravee School.
