Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed six islands in the atolls have recorded over 100 active COVID-19 cases.
Currently, active cases are highest in Kulhudhuffushi City, Guraidhoo in Kaafu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City as well as Hulhumeedhoo, Feydhoo, and Hithadhoo in Addu City.
The latest statistics show Guraidhoo has recorded 121 cases, Kulhudhuffushi has recorded 181 cases, and Fuvahmulah City has recorded 203 cases. Meanwhile, 166 cases have been recorded in Hulhumeedhoo, 156 cases have been recorded in Feydhoo, and 275 cases have been recorded in Hithadhoo. As such, a total of 3,050 individuals in the atolls have been found positive for COVID-19, which includes 2,819 Maldivians and 231 foreigners.
The Maldives is experiencing its fourth wave of COVID-19 infections and is recording a significant increase in cases due to the spread of the Omicron variant. A total of 23 islands have been placed under monitoring following the rise in cases.
