Maldives National Skills Development Authority (MNSDA) has approved Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT) to conduct its National Trade Testing and Certification Programme.
MIT was granted approval to conduct the programme after being awarded as a National Trade Test Centre by MNSDA. The institute stated individuals with more than five years of work experience in different fields can apply and gain MNSDA certification through the programme.
CEO of MNSDA Ahmed Nasheed said MIT has become the first private institute to provide National Trade Testing and Certification. He said the authority looks forward to recognising prior learning in various trades for youth empowerment by acquiring formal qualifications.
Maldives Polytechnic was the first institute to register as a National Trade Test Centre and continues to conduct trade testing programmes under the guidelines set by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authority. The National Trade Testing and Certification allows individuals to officially gain recognition for their work experience through testing and obtaining academic certificates.
The programme is part of the Ministry of Higher Education's pledge to officially recognise individuals who have been working without academic certificates. The ministry stated the certificates awarded upon completion of the programme are recognised by the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA).
Applicants of any age will be allowed to participate in the programme if they have been employed for five consecutive years.
