Gov't to provide land plots from Giraavaru to Male' residents

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced 2,000 land plots from Giraavaru, Kaafu Atoll, will be provided to residents from Male' City. He made the announcement while delivering the Presidential Address at the Parliament of the Maldives.

In his address, President Solih described housing as the most prominent issue for the residents of Male' City. As such, the president revealed his decision to provide over 5,000 land plots in the Greater Male' Region to the residents of the city in June.

The plan also includes the provision of at least 1,000 land plots from Hulhumale' and 2,000 land plots from Gulhifalhu. He also said the bridge linking Male', Villimale', Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi will be devised to reach Giraavaru. He went on to assure the residents of Male' City that he would address their housing needs before the end of his term.

Furthermore, President Solih said the development of 5,000 housing units in Hulhumale' are ongoing and he revealed plans to develop an additional 2,000 housing units in Hulhumale'. He also revealed that the development of 2,180 homes outside of the Greater Malé Region is currently progressing in different stages. He said the process of granting USD2.7 million to 82 individuals for housing development under the national housing loan scheme is also in progress.

The loan scheme is part of the administration's pledge to introduce nationwide affordable housing options to ensure dignified lives for all Maldivians.
