The Government of Japan has extended a grant worth USD 159,000 for the provision of 8 ambulances to local islands in the Maldives.
The grant is provided under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme. The grant agreement was signed on February 7 by Minister of State for Health Dr. Shah Abdulla Mahir and Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, State Minister Mahir said the government places a high priority on strengthening emergency medical services across the country, noting the provision of ambulances would be a major boost to these efforts. He thanked the Japanese government for its continuous support and assistance towards the Maldivian health sector.
The 8 reconditioned ambulances to be provided under the Japanese grant will be provided with 8 sets of medical equipment. As such, the medical equipment provided with the ambulances include advanced life support equipment bags, oxygen cylinders, bag valve mask and spinal board.
