Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi has stated the upgrade of the harbour in Girifushi, Kaafu Atoll is an important milestone for the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). She made the remarks in the ceremony held to inaugurate the coastal protection project in Girifushi.
Speaking at the event, Defence Minister Mariya noted the upgrade of the harbour in Girifushi, which is the main training base of MNDF, is an important step in the efforts to increase the technical capabilities of the military. She noted the lack of action over the years to improve the condition of Girifushi harbour had led to many difficulties and obstructions for MNDF. She added the inauguration of the project is an important milestone for the defence force.
The project to upgrade Girifushi harbour was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The ceremony held to inaugurate the project was attended by CEO of MTCC Adam Azim, Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal and senior officers of MNDF.
