Maafushi Prison has been brought back to normal status after a 28-day long alert over the outbreak of COVID-19 cases in the prison.
Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) said the outbreak of COVID-19 cases in the prison has now been controlled, with all inmates who tested positive recovering from the disease. MCS said the prison has been returned to a normal status, which would see a return to the new normal guidelines established on family meetings, lawyer meetings and court hearings.
272 inmates at Maafushi Prison had tested positive for COVID-19, including one who had to be treated at a special COVID-19 facility. Some high-risk inmates were also transferred to house arrest due to the COVID-19 situation in the prison.
