Foundation laid for community centre built in Muli under Pakistani aid

The foundation stone has been officially laid for the community centre being built in Muli, Meemu Atoll under the grant aid of the Government of Pakistan.

The foundation stone for the Quaid e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah Memorial Pakistan-Maldives Community Centre in Muli was officially laid by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives Vice Admiral Ather Mukhtar and President of Meemu Atoll Council Mohamed Nimal.

The community centre is being built under a grant aid of USD 170,000 extended by the Pakistani government. Meemu Atoll Council stated the community centre will be used to host important events, meetings and training programmes conducted in the atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony held to officially lay the foundation stone for the community centre, High Commissioner Ather Mukhtar said the longstanding bilateral ties between Pakistan and the Maldives are based on the shared Islamic values and the mutual respect and trust established between the two countries. He noted Pakistan will remain an important development partner of the Maldives in social development and human capacity building.

The community centre in Muli is being built in the harbour area of the island. The atoll council revealed the project is expected to be completed within an year.
