Over 200,000 tourist arrivals recorded so far

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 200,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year.

Statistics from the tourism ministry show 201,126 tourists have visited the Maldives as of February 14. The amount is a 45% increase compared to the 138,912 tourist arrivals recorded in the same period last year. The statistics show 131,764 tourists visited the Maldives in January and 69,362 tourists have visited so far in February. The Maldives has also achieved a new single-day record with 7,668 tourist arrivals recorded on February 12.

The highest number of tourists visited from Russia this year, which consisted of 16% of the market share, with the second-highest tourist visits recorded from the UK, which consisted of 12% of the total arrivals. Russia had the second-highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives at the end of 2021, only exceeded by India. However, India is currently the third-largest source market with 8.4% of the market share.

The government and stakeholders of the tourism industry aim to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
