President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has discussed the developmental plans and progress for Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll with members of the Naifaru Island Council. The discussions were held during the president’s visit to Naifaru as part of his ongoing visit to six islands of Lhaviyani Atoll.
At the meeting, council members shared with the president the most pertinent needs and concerns of the residents. They noted the urgency of addressing the housing needs of the island despite the newly built 100 housing units. They also highlighted the need for upgrading healthcare services with the inclusion of specialty services and improving waste management and shared with the president the challenges of managing Madhrasathul Ifthithaah, difficulties for fishermen in acquiring ice, and other concerns regarding the improvement of socio-economic activities on the island.
Speaking at the meeting, President Solih stated that the administration would remain steadfast in the delivery of its pledges to the people. He noted that despite the difficulties faced due to COVID-19, the economic situation in the Maldives has improved and that developmental projects would continue unabated.
President Solih added that most of the concerns raised by the council members were regarding projects already underway or in implementation. In this regard, the President stated that the concern regarding the upgrading of healthcare with the addition of specialty services would soon be resolved and that road development would be initiated with the completion of the water and sewerage network project. He assured them that the administration would find amicable solutions to the concerns raised at the meeting.
The president also officially inaugurated Madhrasathul Ifthithaah’s new extension building, housing 10 classrooms, an audio-visual room, and a staff room. Afterwards, he visited Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital and inquired about its services.
During his tour, the president has visited Naifaru, Madivaru, Hinnavaru, and Felivaru in Lhaviyani Atoll. The president is also scheduled to visit Olhuvelifushi and Kurendhoo during this trip.
