National airline inaugurates sales office in Bangladesh

The national airline, Maldivian, has inaugurated its new sales office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh Shiruzimath Sameer inaugurated the sales office at a special ceremony. Managing Director of Maldivian Mohamed Mihad was also present at the ceremony.

Bangladesh is a key destination for Maldivian flights operating in the South Asian region. Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), which operates the airline, has stated Maldivian currently operates three weekly flights between Dhaka and Velana International Airline (VIA).

The flights are scheduled to be operated on Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday. One-way tickets are currently sold at a price of USD225, and round tickets are sold at USD406, with a luggage allowance of 40kg.

Bangladesh was among the first countries to operate flights to the Maldives since the country reopened its borders in July 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic. However, flights were halted last year due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in the Maldives, and weekly flights were scheduled to operate from August 2021.
