Islamic Centre to be renovated for Ramadan

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has commenced the repair and renovation of the Islamic Centre in Male’ ahead of the upcoming month of Ramadan.

The Islamic ministry revealed renovation of the Islamic Centre began in the first week of March as part of the preparations for Ramadan. The ministry said the scope of the renovation works include cleaning of exterior and interior spaces, renewing calligraphy, installing additional fans in the area allocated for females, and replacing the damaged marble flooring within the premises of the centre.

The Islamic ministry stated the Islamic Centre had undergone renovation prior to Ramadan in each of the last three years. As such, the ministry stated the centre has undergone major repair work such as the installation of a new sound system, lights, fans, chandeliers as well as the refurbishment of the minaret.

The Islamic Centre is one of the most important Islamic landmarks of the Maldives. It is able to accommodate over 5,000 worshippers at the mosque, and also houses conference halls and the office of the Islamic ministry.
