Ministry of Tourism has revealed a special forum will be held at One World Travel Market (OTM) in India to promote tourism in the northern region of the Maldives.
OTM is being held from March 14-16 and is the gateway to India's largest travel markets and one of the leading annual travel trade shows in India.
Speaking to journalists before departing to India, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom said the forum seeks to gain investors for tourism businesses in the northern region of the country by highlighting the opportunities for further development after increasing connectivity to the Hanimaadhoo International Airport. The minister highlighted the airport has the advantage of being close to India and that the number of tourist beds will also need to be increased along with the increased connectivity to the airport. He said homestay tourism will increase the tourist bed capacity and that increased travel to the northern region will also expand the import and export of goods.
Minister Mausoom will be participating at OTM along with Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the National Boating Association of Maldives, and the Haa Dhaalu Atoll Council. The tourism ministry stated the primary focus will be on the investment opportunities in the northern region.
