Vice President Faisal Naseem has revealed plans of the administration to expand Child Development Services to the north and south of the Maldives. He made the remarks at the ceremony held to inaugurate the new Child Development Centre in Hulhumalé Hospital,
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Naseem noted it was difficult to reach the services offered by the centre in the past by all citizens. However, he added the official launch of the centre would make it easier for those seeking services with plans in place to expand the services across the country.
Highlighting there will be challenges in starting all of the services across the country at once, the vice president said the lack of trained personnel to provide services to children with disabilities is a major challenge for the Maldives. However, he said that a training programme is also underway to develop the human resources required for the sector.
The vice president also said efforts are underway to offer specialisation programmes to develop specialists for the hospitals in addition to the development and expansion of regional hospitals across the country.
