MACL concludes full-scale emergency exercise

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has successfully concluded a full-scale emergency exercise at Velana International Airport (VIA).

Over 400 participants joined the four-hour exercise, which is the largest ever emergency exercise conducted in the Maldives held to test the emergency response plan and readiness of the airport and operating airlines.

MACL conducted the exercise with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and 30 other institutions. The company has been conducting the emergency exercise every two years and dedicated this year’s drills to responding to plane crashes on the new runway and other flight emergencies. NDMA stated such exercises help increase the country’s sectoral emergency preparedness and disaster response capacity and thanked MACL for organising the event.

Vice President Faisal Naseem and Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi were present to inspect the exercise.
