MNDF begins Fire Prevention Week 2022

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has commenced the Fire Prevention Week 2022.

The aim of the Fire Prevention Week is to create public awareness on fire safety. The programme is conducted annually ahead of Ramadan, as it is a month where fire accidents generally increase compared to other months.

Speaking to PSM News, MNDF Warrant Officer 3 Asim Rasheed said the Fire Prevention Week has received a lot of support and cooperation during previous years. He noted the programme was held as a media campaign during the last two years due to COVID-19 pandemic, but would return as a public event once again this year.

During the Fire Prevention Week, MNDF will provide instructions on how to react to a fire accident in a household. As such, instructions will be given on how to use fire blankets, as well as operating cooking gas.

MNDF said the programme will be carried out from March 19-24. Events of the programme will be held in the Villimale’ Ferry Terminal area on March 21, and in Thilafushi on March 22. The programme will move to Hulhumale’ Phase I on March 23 and Hulhumale’ Phase II on March 24.
