Ministry of Tourism has revealed around 500 new tourist beds were brought into operation from guesthouses this year.
A total of 10,716 beds had been brought into operation from 631 guesthouses at the beginning of the year. The latest statistics from the tourism ministry show the number has increased to 11,206 beds from 642 guesthouses. As such, a total of 490 new beds have been brought into operation from 29 guesthouses this year.
Furthermore, the tourism ministry revealed there are 54,618 total tourist beds in operation in the Maldives. The amount includes 39,064 resort beds, 11,206 guesthouse beds, six homestay beds, 2,924 liveaboard beds, and 1,418 hotel beds.
Moreover, a total of 967 tourist facilities, including 164 resorts, 642 guesthouses, one home stay facility, 149 liveaboards, and 11 hotels, have been opened for tourists. The total bed capacity registered to serve tourists in the Maldives is 60,203, according to statistics.
