Fieldwork for Kudahuvadhoo road development to begin

Road Development Corporation (RDC) has revealed fieldwork will begin soon for the second phase of the road development project in Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Atoll.

RDC stated the shipments needed to begin fieldwork have been transported to Kudavhuadhoo, which include construction materials and heavy vehicles. The state-owned company is now preparing the project site to lay casting material for the pavement and the drainage system.

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted RDC to complete the second phase of road development in Kudahuvadhoo in September 2021. As part of the second phase, RDC is tasked with tarring a 5.85km road in Kudahuvadhoo as well as establishing a drainage system and installing street lights. RDC is tasked with completing the project within one year and 80 days at a cost of USD7.9 million.

Funds were allocated for the road development project in the State Budget 2020 after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to develop the roads during a visit to the island in 2019. President Solih said Kudahuvadhoo will be developed as an urban centre as part of the development plan of the government.

The first phase of the road development project commenced in Kudahuvadhoo in 2013 with 13 roads developed by 2015.
