HDC launches smart pole and bench in Hulhumale’

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has launched the smart pole and bench installed in Hulhumale’ Central Park.

The smart pole and bench were officially launched by the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula. The smart pole and bench are part of the HDC Smart City Project.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Transport Minister Nahula said the development of a smart pole and bench is an important initiative during a time the country is focusing efforts on sustainability. She expressed hope that more such facilities would be developed in different parts of the country.

Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed revealed that the smart pole and bench would utilise renewable energy and help to reduce the overall carbon emission of the city. He said such facilities would bring about positive changes in making urban cities more sustainable.

The smart pole, produced by Omniflow, is illuminated by solar and wind energy. It reduces the fuel consumption of light posts by 90%. It is also equipped with WiFi and security cameras, and can also display digital advertisements and public information.

Meanwhile, the smart bench is equipped with architectural lighting, USB, and wireless charging points. It is also equipped with charging stations for electrical bicycles and wheelchairs.
