Gov’t begins efforts to dispatch 20 more ambulances to the atolls

Ministry of Health has commenced efforts to dispatch an additional 20 ambulances procured for the atolls.

The 20 ambulances that were procured this week were part of the 96 ambulances contracted to be procured by STO, as part of the ambulance procurement project signed in June last year. With the latest batch of 20 ambulances that arrived in the Maldives, a total of 83 ambulances have been procured by STO under this project.

Since ambulance services are one of the most important means of providing emergency health care, many islands have shared complaints with the health ministry regarding the unused and damaged ambulances in the hospitals and health centres. The project to procure 96 ambulances was launched in order to resolve these issues and remove the obstacles faced in accessing healthcare services.
