AgroNat markets watermelon in efforts to maintain price

Agro National Corporation (AgroNat) has made available a number of perishables to the market for the month of Ramadan, in an effort to maintain the prices.

Every Ramadan, the public complains about the increase in prices of items, especially vegetables and fruits. In efforts to maintain the prices, the government's agricultural company, AgroNat, has made available a number of watermelons to market. As such, five tonnes of watermelon, 1.5 tonnes of watermelon, and three tonnes of watermelon were made available to the market on the first, second, and third day of Ramadan, respectively.

According to AgroNat, an additional 10 tonnes of watermelon will be brought to market this week, adding a total of 117 tonnes will be released to the market during Ramadan.

As the productivity of agricultural products has increased in the Maldives, the price of watermelon in the market has not increased during the month of Ramadan this year. AgroNat said it hopes to bring a large number of Maldivian products to the market. In addition to watermelon, pumpkin, butternut, sponge gourd, cucumber, papaya, and bananas will also be released to the market, AgroNat said.
