MSS to buy bulk carrier for the import of construction materials

Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has decided to purchase a bulk carrier for the import of construction materials.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of MSS Abdulla Saeed said the company is undertaking preparations to begin import of construction materials such as sand and aggregates. In this regard, Saeed revealed MSS is preparing to buy a bulk carrier for the import of construction materials, noting the final closing will be signed within the next 2-3 days. He predicted the carrier will arrive in the Maldives with cargo by late April or early May.

Speaking further, Saeed revealed the bulk carrier will be 190m long, with a gross tonnage of 4,400T. He added MSS has already acquired staff for the carrier, noting all but four of them are locals.

MSS is a subsidiary company of State Trading Company (STO) which was established to reduce the price of goods imported into the country. MSS began importing goods on its own shipping vessel last year, with the purchase of MSS Galena, a ship with the capacity to carry 780 containers, a 60-tonne crane, and 60 barrels.
