MTCC to build coastal protection structures in Rathafandhoo

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to build coastal protection structures in Rathafandhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

The agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MTCC Shahid Hussain Moosa.

The scope of the project involves the construction of a 461m revetment, a 240m breakwater, and 6,600cbm of beach filling operations. MTCC is tasked with completing the project within 210 days at a cost of USD1.8 million.

MTCC is conducting major infrastructure development projects across the Maldives. In this regard, the company is currently carrying out three airport development projects, three causeway and link road development projects, 43 harbour and jetty projects, seven port development projects, 33 shore protection projects, seven road development projects, and one sewerage project.

Furthermore, MTCC revealed 103 projects were conducted in the last quarter of 2021. The projects include 43 harbour development projects, three land reclamation projects, 11 beach protection projects, nine road development projects, and three airport development projects, according to the financial report published by MTCC.

MTCC recorded a turnover of USD40.5 million in the last quarter of 2021. In this regard, USD4.3 million was generated as operating profit which is a significant increase compared to the fourth quarter of 2020.
