State Trading Organisation (STO) has brought all 96 ambulances contracted to be procured.
In June 2021, STO was handed over the procurement of 96 ambulances needed for atolls. Many island residents have shared complaints regarding the unused and damaged ambulances in the hospitals and health centres since ambulance services are one of the most important means of providing emergency health care.
Therefore, a project was launched by the government to provide ambulances to the atolls, in an effort to solve such issues. As part of the project, 96 ambulances have now been brought to the Maldives, with 83 ambulances have been sent to designated islands, according to STO.
STO said the remaining 13 ambulances have also arrived in the Maldives and will be sent to the islands within the next week. STO is also working on registering ambulances acquired under the project. STO revealed the project will take 2-3 months.
Ambulance services are one of the most important facilities required for emergency health care. The residents of the island without ambulances have to bear a major burden in transporting patients.
