Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has revealed that 200 tonnes of waste is being collected from households daily during Ramadan. During the month of Ramadan, the amount of waste generated by households increases compared to other months.
WAMCO revealed normally the corporation collects about 132 tonnes of waste daily, adding the waste generated during Ramadan has increased similar to previous years. As such, WAMCO said the waste collected daily has increased by 40% in Ramadan.
WAMCO announced it would be collecting household waste between 2000hrs and 0000hrs during Ramadan and the first seven days of Shawwal. During the period, the transfer stations of WAMCO would be active from 0900hrs until 1700hrs and from 2000hrs until 0100hrs. However, on Fridays, transfer station services would only begin at 1400hrs.
In addition to household waste collection and transfer station services, WAMCO also provides Call And Pickup Service (CAPS) for bulky waste. This service will be available from 0900hrs until 1600hrs and from 2000hrs until 0100hrs during Ramadan.
WAMCO provides waste collection and disposal services in the Greater Male’ Region as well as Addu City and Fuvahmulah City.
