Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has revealed expansion projects are currently ongoing in 16 different health centres across the atolls.
Speaking at the Parliament of the Maldives, Health Minister Naseem revealed there are currently 16 ongoing projects related to expansion of health centres, including three projects where contractors have already commenced fieldwork. As such, he noted expansion of health centres in Utheemu in Haa Alifu Atoll, Maroshi in Shaviyani Atoll and Kendhoo in Baa Atoll are in advanced stages.
Furthermore, the health minister revealed expansion projects of health centres in Feydhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Landhoo in Noonu Atoll, Dhiyamigili in Thaa Atoll and Dhiggaru in Meemu Atoll will be contracted this month. He said another nine expansion projects are set to be opened for tender.
The government is undertaking several projects to strengthen healthcare services in the atolls. As such, the Ministry of Finance has recently issued an announcement seeking contractors for the development of hospitals in seven islands. The government is also developing tertiary hospitals in five regions across the country.
